Dan Berg can’t seem to put his finger on it. It’s on the tip of his tongue, but he just can’t fully define it. He settles on the “it” factor.
Laura Archer, she probably has a word for it. Maybe. Brian Sisz, Mark Mayernik and Robin Blue, too. Almost, but not quite.
It’s been so hard for the Jersey Outlaws Premier coaches to pinpoint the exact word because it’s so uncanny. So uncanny how their new team has fit together right from the start. Fifteen strong, all working together to be the best they can both on and off the field. When one person makes a mistake, everyone else is there to bail her out.
Even the veteran Outlaws coaches have to be surprised their team is off to a 12-1 start on the 18U level – a young group that put together its second straight 5-0 weekend, this time at the Xtreme Dimensions Fall Showcase this weekend. They beat the Pennsbury Gems 18U Black, 10-2, the NJ Fight, 8-1, the South Jersey Rebels Gold, 8-1, the South Jersey Thunder, 10-1, and then the USA Lady Hawks Gold, 14-1, with a season-high run total for the young campaign.
The players talk as if they have been together for years. Some have, some haven’t. But it’s so hard to tell which ones. It’s simply the “it” factor.
